Emanuela Zilio
Emanuela is a project manager in strategic projects at regional, national and European levels connected to urban renewal processes, the revitalization of abandoned villages and cultural and innovative business models for territorial development.
In 2020 she co-founded Viso A Viso Community Cooperative and the M-Cube Foundation. Today she is also an independent researcher and lecturer in XR technologies and Modern Mythology at HTW Berlin, Politecnico of Milan, and the University of Turin.

What is your role in (design for) transformation?
In many of the projects I'm engaged in, I act as a cultural mediator. My role involves creating a new space for understanding and exchange among diverse competencies, work cultures, and vocabularies. This fosters innovation through an interdisciplinary approach and opens up opportunities for comprehensive problem-solving. Transformation also necessitates redefining roles and adopting horizontal management structures. This process is rather demanding, requiring continuous learning, flexibility, and a willingness to approach challenges with the curiosity and adaptability of a child, always ready to start anew.

Your mission in one sentence? What do you want to change? And why?
My goal is to empower individuals, fostering optimism and courage. I aim to create improved conditions and tools for mutual listening, understanding, critical thinking and open-mindedness. I firmly believe that Culture and Knowledge can significantly contribute to this endeavor. Therefore, my mission is to go beyond the comfort-zone, to support projects that promote these values, reaching out to as many people as possible and fostering networking. Those who do not evolve, become extinct.

What do you expect from Salon D?
I expect opportunities for learning, discovery, and exchange. Salon D will enable me to broaden my perspective on the transformative potential of design and to acquire new insights and tools that I can integrate into my professional practice and personal life. By inviting diverse viewpoints from various sectors and experiences, it will also create space for discussion and mutual growth.
