The rocket station Hombroich is a former Nato area. It was operated as part of the Nato Air Defence Belt by a Belgian rocket squadron. A few years after the end of the Cold War, Karl-Heinrich Müller, art collector, patron and founder of Museum Insel Hombroich, bought the rocket station. He laid the foundation stone for the cultural development of the former Nato site into a place of art, science and nature. Culture in NRW was given an interdisciplinary field of experimentation here.
